Elleway Family
Ray and Aileen Elleway got to know Fred and Lloyd Ramsey in Cleve in 1958. "it all started when we had just moved to the area. Lloyd Ramsey turned up on our doorstep with fresh bread and Kerosene, and welcomed us to the neighbourhood." Ray says. "Our family has always dealt with Ramsey Bros since then. We have a good two-way relationship, and we can always talk on the level. And of course, service and parts in Cleve are second to none."
May Family
Jack and Valmai May have dealt with Ramsey Bros since they started in Wudinna in 1984, and Mark (Freddy) is following his uncle's footsteps. Jack says, "They're good people, you can have a joke and a beer with them. And they go out of their way to help you. They're great to deal with."
When asked about stand-out experiences with Ramsey Bros, Jack says "the first one was when we didn't have the case dealership in Wudinna, and we bough a case header from Cleve. We got looked after really well, and Brenton Ramsey stuck by us. We had good service out of Cleve. It didn't cost us any extra, and probably saved us $10K."
Valmai recalls another time. "A few years ago, the glass broke on the header door." Freddy continues, "We went up to Ramsey Bros on Christmas Eve and got another door." Jack adds "and we had it going again that night. It wouldn't have happened unless Brenton organised it for us, and he got it within two hours for us." "Another good thing about Ramsey Bros is that they support local sporting bodies and the district in general, they sponsor the footy club. Not only in this area, but all their other branch areas." Jack says.
Gus and Helen May, Ash and Anna May have also been customers with Ramsey Bros since they've been in Wudinna 1984. Gus says "Their service is pretty well second to none on Eyre Peninsula. There is always someone available. They always get things done pretty quick, especially when harvesting or seeding" he says. Ash adds, "all the products are pretty good these days, so we go where the service is."
Turnbull Family
Peter, Brian and Oliver Turnbull have been dealing with Ramsey Bros since they have been in Cummins. "We have a pretty good relationship with them, never had any major issues, and we get on pretty well with them. They have good service technicians, and we get pretty good deals when we're looking for new machinery." Brian says. "And good finance packages too." Peter adds.
Tohl Family
Tohl Bros have been dealing with Ramsey Bros since the business started in Saddleworth in March. Bob, Dominica, Murray and Raylene Tohl run the family farm together with Bob and Dominica's son Stephen and his wife Sarah. Bob said, "The best thing about Ramsey Bros is that they are a family business, very honest people to deal with and have a very good quoting system, because their first quote is their best price."
"Ramsey Bros service is really good" Stephen said "I had a break down in the header and broke the fan belt close to midnight. I drove to Saddleworth, got a new belt from Trevor, and met Brad Abbott (service manager) who was on his way home from his cousin's place. We fitted the belt and then I was able to keep reaping that night."
Jericho Family
David and Leah Jericho bought their first header in 1983, from the Cleve branch. When talking about the service David says, "Good service is the best thing about them, but they are also forward looking so they get access to plant and machinery when we want it." Leah agrees, and adds "They're knowledge of their parts is excellent. When we have a particular problem, they know someone else who's had a similar problem."
David and Leah appreciate the friendliness of Ramsey Bros staff, "When you walk in there, everybody is happy, and everyone knows you by name." David says. Leah describes how the staff treat her, "they are particularly friendly. It's nice. They make me feel like an equal. In no way do I feel as a woman that I'm treated any differently." She says.
"The one thing that really impresses me is that we are in an area where we have a quite a number of local clubs, and I think Ramsey Bros sponsors all of them." Leah says. David talks about another example of Ramsey Bros support of the local area, "Several years ago I was involved in establishing a company called 'Free Eyre'. The community pulled together to set it up, and Ramsey Bros particularly supported Free Eyre." "They are a part of the farming community, and every time someone asks they put their hand in their pocket to provide support."
Hazelgrove Family
Darren (Wombi) and Jenny Hazelgrove have been a customer of Ramsey Bros for 16 years. "The best thing about dealing with Ramsey Bros is the quality of the gear, and the backup service. And prices, that helps." When asked about the serve, Wombi says, "Pilko is great and Brad too. They are available 24/7. They've always been fantastic. We had a deader break down a few years ago, and they had another one out to us within 24 hours." Wombi also notes the quality of the workshop and training and development of the staff. "They've upgraded their workshop, and everything is always up-to-date – they're onto it. They look after their staff, and they look after us too."
Michael Family
John and Heather Michael have been customers with Ramsey Bros since they opened their branch in Wudinna in 1984. John used to deal with Brenton Ramsey, and now deals with his son Linc Ramsey. When asked what the relationship is like, John says "It's actually quite a good one. I reckon Linc's doing a darn good job. Brenton's my age, and Linc is a lot younger but he's filled Brenton's shoes really well, and doing such a good job running that branch. He got other life skills before he came back to the branch and had a really good family upbringing and knows how to relate well. And that's being honest."
The Michaels thinks the best thing about Ramsey Bros is their professionalism, and that it's a family business. "We are always welcome into their shop. Whatever we want they'll get it for us. Often we go in there, doesn't matter what time of the day, for a 5 minute chat, and you end up with a coffee in your hand and half and hour later you're still there. They're professional right through, and they've got consistent, professional management." John says. "And Heather loves the ladies days that they organise for the women".
Pedler family
Neil Pedler, wife Joyleen and son Simon have dealt with Ramsey Bros since they started in Cummins in 1995. "They provide good, personal service, and have friendly staff" Neil says. "They go out of their way to employ good mechanics, which is good for us. A tractor broke down during spraying this year. We thought to fix it would take at least a week, but it took only three days. Another time, a rotor got out of balance, and they fixed it in their workshop on Sunday afternoon."
Hampel Family
Greg and Neil Hampel have dealt with Ramsey Bros since they started in Saddleworth March 2006. "They have good products, and great service. They're generally easy to get on with. John's been pretty good to us. He has helped us out and gone out of his way a lot. Couple of years ago he took us over to the West Coast to look for header, has a good run with it since then. Everything really is pretty good." When asked if there's anything they could do to improve the service the brothers say, " Not really, everything they do is pretty much on the mark."
Harris Family
Laryn Harris has been a customer of Ramsey Bros for 30 years, "and my dad dealt with Fred and Lloyd since 1958" says Laryn. "The best thing about them is their service and parts. Never any complications, things are fixed straight away, and the knowledge of the service guys is great. We have a good friendship as well. Bit like family, they are." He says. "They're loyal to us and we're loyal to them".
Gunn Family
"I've been dealing with Ramsey Bros since I came home in 1992, and my dad has dealt with them since they started in Wudinna in 1984" says Stuart Gunn. "I believe they've got the product we want, and they can service it... I can get similar product from other competitors, but they can't always get it to work. No point in having a product and it breaks, and can't get it going again. In this day and age, some of the stuff we're now buying is getting so complicated, that if you don't have good investment in your staff, you're not actually going to be able to get it out in the field and get it to work for the client' he says.
"During our busy times we're 7 days a week and just about 24 hours a day. When something breaks it will be either at 7pm at night on a Friday, or just before a long weekend, or on a Sunday. All Ramsey staff are contactable, they'll open up and get you the part. Three days sitting around can mean everything, so that means a hell of a lot. There's been a few times when they've helped us out."
Proctor Family
Ian and Kerrie Proctor bought their first air seeders from Ramsey Bros about 12 years ago. "We get the right price, and back up is outstanding – A1. Service is fantastic" Ian says. "The first year we had problems with one of our new air seeders, and had to change all the air system on it. Pilko and another mechanic came out and did it on a Sunday morning. That was pretty good. The service has been the thing that has been outstanding" he says.
Waters Family
Dean and Kerry, Tristan and Jo Waters have been customers of Ramsey Bros since they've been in Wudinna from 1984. When asked what they think is the best thing about dealing with Ramsey Bros, Kerry says with a smile "Their ladies days, they're really good." Tristan says, "They've got good back up service." Dean adds, "They're good when something breaks down at the wrong time."
When talking about Ramsey Bros service, Dean says, "Our new header broke down last year, they got us a second hand one to use within about half hour, and plenty of weekends and long weekends." Dean adds, "We always know when they're trying their best." Dean also notes other good things that Ramsey Bros do, "They sponsor local clubs and shows, which is really good" he says.
Allen Family
Phillip (Flip) Allen and his wife Colleen have been customers with Ramsey Bros since they started in Saddleworth in March 2006. When asked to describe the relationship he has with them, Philip says "Pretty good. They're easy to get on with." About the service he says "Parts support is good. When we have a breakdown their service is good and problems are fixed quickly." Phillip recalled a stand-out experience "They took me to Ballarat to Goldacres expo a while back, I saw the production manager and got exactly what I wanted."
