Ramsey Bros RTK - A Real Experience

Michael Agars originally purchased an EZ Guide EZ Steer to steer his seeding rig which compromises a Case IH Steiger articulated tractor, Gason airseeder bin and Flexicoil bar. As Michael is the primary spray tractor driver typical of many farming operations, he employs a casual tractor driver at seeding time to operate the seeding equipment. As casual operators are often required to operate machinery that they are sometimes unfamiliar with, equipment with autosteer becomes increasingly more attractive for both the owner and operator.

Michael purchased the equipment to reduce GPS drift. Using autonomous signal for seeding had left him with overlap and gaps, unless the operator continually corrected this via the console. As Michael’s farm is located within 12kms of a Ramsey Bros RTK Base Station the opportunity to access the accurate 2cm signal interested him. Combining Trimble Steering and Topcon signal proved to be very simple, by upgrading the Trimble equipment to RTK and adding a Topcon radio.

Installation of the RTK steering system was completed within 15 minutes. Now his steering is stable, accurate and repeatable. When asked about value for money regarding upgrading to RTK Michael believes it was an excellent purchase. Upon speaking to his neighbours who are interested in what he has done, quite a few were impressed with the compatibility and interested in the opportunity to have this solution available to them. With seeding complete Michael cannot wait for harvest and put his RTK enabled steering system through its paces.
